There was nothing—no workshop, no address book. There was a room overlooking a courtyard on Rue Vendôme in Lyon, two hands, and a refusal to entrust to others what one could learn and do oneself. It was 2020; Zakaria El Bahi was twenty-six years old. He renovated this room and set up his first workbench to welcome his first clients.

Gesture after gesture, artisan after artisan, creation after creation. Nights bleeding into days, pieces reworked until they were perfect, skills learned and mastered one by one, then passed on. Six years later, the manufactory brings together about thirty artisans and cuts its own stones.

The houses of Place Vendôme are not mistaken. They entrust the manufactory with their most complex pieces, those that demand legendary skills and hands that are almost impossible to find anymore.

From Rue Vendôme to Place Vendôme, there was no inheritance. French houses that manufacture what they design, from raw stone to finished piece, can be counted on the fingers of one hand. Only one was built from scratch: Maison Zari Zavar.
